The Introduction of Tinplate from Shandong Jintai Metal Manufacturer
Time: 2024-10-16

Tinplate, commonly known as tinplate (SPTE), refers to a cold-rolled thin steel plate with a thin layer of metal tin on the surface. It has a certain strength and hardness, good formability and easy welding. The tin layer is non-toxic and tasteless, and the surface is bright. The tin mainly prevents corrosion and rust. According to the production process, it is divided into hot-dip tinplate and electroplated tinplate. Commonly used cans or beverage cans are made of tinplate.

Introduction

Tinplate is a steel product with a stampable thin steel plate as the base, tin-plated on its surface, and multiple layers of protective film (layers). It is corrosion-resistant, non-toxic, odorless, shiny, light, high-strength (relative to paper, wood, and composite materials), easy to print, weld and process, and highly adaptable to ambient temperature. Therefore, more than 70% of the total output of tinplate is used for food and beverage packaging. In addition, it is also the packaging and raw material for chemical, pharmaceutical, electromechanical, hardware, telecommunications and instrumentation industries.

Main features

The main feature of tin-plated steel sheet is that the tin-plated layer has the dual properties of electrochemical cathode and anode protection, that is, the potential of the inner wall of a food can filled with a complex mixture (or in a weak acid solution) and with a certain vacuum is lower than that of the base material iron. Tin is the anode, and its dissolution protects the iron. During the shelf life of the food can, the amount of tin dissolved is basically harmless to the human body; while its outer wall is in the atmospheric solution, the tin-plated layer is in a cathode protection state, and has sufficient chemical stability, which is unmatched by other canning materials.

Notes: 1) Passivation applys to Tinplate only, TFS no need passivation.
          2) Code 311 is the most widely used passivation.
           3) Code 300 is a simple chemical
dip treatment.
